God Made the Possum
02:47
|
|||
Verse 1.
When God created this old world
There's something you must know
He made all of the animals
Some fast and some real slow
He made some with wings and feathers
Some with hide and hair
Some are mighty common
And others awfully rare
He thought He'd used up all his parts
But He found that He still had some
He took the spares and made one more
And he called it the Possum
Chorus-
He took the head and tail from a big ol' rat
The body from a porcupine
He removed the quills, put in some hair
And He said that looks just fine
Of all these creatures God created
Some of them quite awesome
It's unique in all the world
This critter called the Possum
Verse 2.
If you hear him in your trash at night
Or underneath your floor
Don't kick or scream or lose your cool
Or be afraid anymore
It's quite possible the things he does
You might consider dumb
Just remember God created him
This thing we call the possum
Chorus-
He took the head and tail from a big ol' rat
The body from a porcupine
He removed the quills, put in some hair
And he said that looks just fine
When God was finished with this job
He said "I'm pleased with what I've done"
There's nothing in this whole wide world
To compare with the Possum
Instrumental Break:
Chorus-
He took the head and tail from a big ol' rat
The body from a porcupine
He removed the quills, put in some hair
And He said that looks just fine
Of all these creatures God created
Some of them quite awesome
It's unique in all the world
This critter called the Possum

I Care
02:24
|
|||
Verse 1.
When the TV won’t work
And your toys fall apart
And you have a sad felling
Deep in your heart
When you want to go out
But its rain out there
I want you to know I care
Chorus-
I care, I do
There’s no one like you
When they take you some place
And you sit in a chair
I want you to know I care
Verse 2.
When you tell a big lie
And your parents are mean
When being grown up
Is a faraway dream
When they’re filling your teeth
And cutting your hair
I want you to know I care
Chorus-
I care, I do
There’s no one like you
I mention your name
When I’m saying my prayers
I want you to know I care
Instrumental Break:

And you can’t go out
When you sit for a week
With that thing in your mouth

Chorus-
I care, I do
There’s no that I’ve met quite like you
And sometimes I act
Like a grouchy ol bare
But I want you to know I care

The Edison Museum
03:31
|
|||
Chorus-
The Edison Museum, not open to the public
Its haunted towers rise into the clouds above it
Bridge-
Folks drive in from out of town
To gaze in amazement when they see it
Verse 1.
Just outside the gate I look into the courtyard
Underneath the gathering thunderstorm
Through the iron bars, I see the Black Maria
Revolving slowly on its platform
Pre-Chorus-
In the topmost tower, a light burns dim
A coiling filament glowing within
Chorus-
The Edison Museum, once a bustling factory
Today is but a darkened, cobweb covered hive of industry
Bridge-
The tallest, widest and most famous haunted mansion in New Jersey
Instrumental Break:
Verse 2.
Behind a wooden door, the voice of Thomas Alva
Recites a poem on a phonograph
Ghosts float up the stairs, like silent moving pictures
The loyal phantoms of his in-house staff
Pre-Chorus-
A wondrous place it is, there can be no doubt
But no one ever goes in, and no one ever comes out
Verse 3.
So when your children quarrel and nothing seems to quell them
Just tell them that you'll take them to the Edison Museum
Bridge-
The largest independently owned and operated mausoleum

The Big Chalk Chicken
03:08
|
|||
Verse 1.
It was two feet tall from its feet to its comb
sitting there on the shelf
it wasn’t “with-a-flock” it was a “what not”
sitting all by itself
I remember all the times I dusted it
From his tail to his toothless mouth
Yes I remember leaning over and looking it in the eye and saying “one-day I’m going to take you out”
Chorus-
Oh, I didn’t break the big chalk chicken
My brothers just blamed it on me
They did the breaking, I got the whoppen
I paid the penalty
Instrumental Break:
Verse 2.
I’d a-bin alright if it hadn’t broke into a hundred pieces or more
Its feet was in the kitchen its head in the bathroom and feathers all over the floor
Well, I did my best to put it back together
but I couldn’t get it done and when mom came home my brothers sang a song
they said “Wane is the guilty one”
Chorus-
Oh, I didn’t break the big chalk chicken
My brothers just blamed it on me
They did the breaking, I got the whoppen
I paid the penalty
Bridge-
And I’ve lived with this hurt most all my life
I’m hoping therapy will set me free
I’ve got to have some help, some kind of relief
from this fowl misery
Chorus-
Oh, I didn’t break the big chalk chicken
My brothers just blamed it on me
They did the breaking, I got the whoppen
I paid the penalty

I Had but 50 Cents
02:25
|
|||
Well, I took my gal to a fancy ball;
It was a social hop;
We stayed until the folks went home,
Until all the music stopped.
Then to a restaurant we went,
The best one on the street;
She said she wasn't hungry,
But this is what she’d eat
A dozen raw, a plate of slaw,
A chicken and a roast,
Parsnips and some apple sass,
Soft-shell crabs on toast.
An oyster stew, with crackers too;
Her appetite was immense!
When she called for pie,
I thought I'd die,
For I had but fifty cents.
She said she wasn't hungry
She didn't come to eat,
I bet my only britches that she could not be beat;
She took it in so cozy,
She had an awful tank;
She said she wasn't thirsty,
Just listen to what she drank:
A whiskey skin, a glass of gin,
Which made me shake with fear,
Ginger pop, with rum on top,
A schooner then a beer,
A glass of ale, a gin cocktail;
She should have had more sense;
When she called for more,
I fell on the floor,
For I had but fifty cents.
You bet I wasn't hungry,
I didn't care to eat,
Expecting any moment
To be kicked out to the street;
She said she’d bring her family in,
And we would have lots of fun;
When I gave the man the fifty cents,
This is what he done:
He tore my clothes,
He smashed my nose,
He hit me more and more,
He gave me a prize
Of two black eyes
And with me swept the floor.
He grabbed me where my pants hung loose,
And threw me plum over the fence;
Take my advice, don't try it twice
If you've got but fifty cents!
Oh, Take my advice, don't-cha try it twice when you've got but fifty cents!

Tristeza the big sadness the heart feels
Let it leave mine forever
Let my lips sing again
From this day on
My days are days
Of sun and roses
My life's a carnival of song
From this day on
My dear the door
To sorrow closes
This day when you came along
La la la la
La la la la la la la

Tristeza the big sadness the heart feels
Let it leave mine forever
Let my lips sing again
